Christopher Forrest

Sound designer | Mixer

Chris first became interested in audio while raiding the record collection of his best friend’s older brother. Secretly listening to LPs by Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson, Public Enemy, and The Beatles, he noticed how sounds other than traditional instruments could help craft a unique musical story-telling experience.

After earning a BFA in Music from The California Institute of the Arts, Chris returned to the Bay Area and landed an internship at an audio post-production facility. There he encountered the magic of combining, dialog, music, ambience, and sound effects in multiple layers with the moving image to create a moving story. He realized that the combination of the creative use of sound and picture, in the technical environment of a recording studio was the perfect combination for him.

Since founding Handsome Sound, Chris has had the pleasure to work on radio and TV commercials for brands as diverse as Vice Media, HP, Old Navy, The San Jose Sharks, Salesforce, HBO, and a small computer company based in Cupertino. He’s worked on documentaries by Werner Herzog and CD releases for Carlos Santana, Henry Kaiser, Jerry Garcia, and Matador Records. His ears have contributed to award-winning independent films screened at Cannes, Sundance, Rotterdam, and TriBeca; and had his work installed in museums throughout Europe the US.
